Being By Your Side through your pregnancy, labor and birth would be my joy!

By Your Side Doula Service

I’m Deb Schirmacher, married to my best friend and husband for 38 years, and parents of four amazing adults. We live in a small rural community in NE Kansas, where people actually sit on their front porches. Caregiving is at the heart of who I am. I love Jesus and people, so serving others is naturally part of my spiritual gifting. Being a pastor’s wife has given me many opportunities to minister to people. I have traveled all over the world to bring encouragement to others on mission trips. Serving both near and far, but no matter where you go, babies and their mamas are the same. I love serving in many different cultures, it gives a great perspective for everyday life. Having an adventurous spirit helps as well. That’s the same for being a Doula.

Recently we have added grandchildren to our family – they are the best part by far. (And there is nothing quite like witnessing your grandchildren being born!) As I started learning about Doulas, I just knew this was the type of serving that I was made to do. It has become my passion and it breathes life back into me as well as the families that I serve. Doulas come along side of others, holding hands, helping hearts and serving families. That’s why I named my business – By Your Side Doula Service. I feel strongly that walking with someone in their most vulnerable moments is a precious gift.

In addition to my own four natural births and breastfeeding experience, I have completed Birth and Postpartum doula training through DONA International. I’m equipped to bring calm and compassion into the lives of others. It’s been such an exciting journey to be able to speak into mothers, partners and families’ lives in such a personal and intimate way. {I’m also currently training as an end of life doula through INELDA, Serving families through debilitating illness, death, and grief.}

Being a Birth Doula, I combine compassionate care, comforting touch and techniques, experience and information to help you make the best decisions for your unique circumstances. I bring a bag of comfort measures to a birth, but my best tools are my voice, hands, and my presence there. Being a part of your care team is a privilege. As members of your team may need to come and go, I stay by your side. Mothers are so strong and yet we all need care and support. I support you in the decisions you make for your birth – whether at home, in the hospital, or at a birthing center. I’m comfortable navigating the medical world, and will advocate for you; helping you to be informed and to find your voice.

As a Postpartum Doula I would love to bring that same calm to your home, as I take care of you and your baby following a birth – emotionally and physically. Getting back on your feet is tough these days as support is needed, and many families are often far apart. Helping with nighttime feedings is often just what moms need – because there is never enough sleep. Providing newborn care, household organization, grocery shopping, meal preparations, light housework, and laundry are some of the things that help a family out. Postpartum doulas make a big difference in keeping everyone happy and healthy.

No matter what your special circumstances I would love to be By Your Side whether at Birth, Postpartum, or End of life. Life is precious at every stage. Your story is important and I would love to listen to you. Every person deserves support, dignity and respect. Let me know how I can serve you!
